Free Help for Cornish Businesses

Cornish businesses are being invited to take a fresh look at product and packaging design to help reduce environmental impacts and achieve important cost savings for their company.

The concepts behind “Cleaner Design” and the impact of a product or packaging across its entire existence will be explored at a free, one day event held at the Alverton Manor, Truro.  The event which will be delivered by ReZolve consultancy and Envirowise on behalf of Envison and in conjunction with the Cornwall Chamber will  assist product and packaging manufacturers and designers to realise the true impact of their product, both on the environment and their budgets. 
 
Businesses today face increasing pressure to comply with  environmental legislation whilst meeting the needs of evolving consumers and contending with rising production, utility and distribution costs.   Envision has helped South West businesses address some of these issues through providing subsidised environmental consultancy and is now offering local engineering and manufacturing companies a one off opportunity to benefit from a day of free advice from leading experts in the principles of Clean Design and resource efficiency.

In the UK, waste packaging accounts for over 10 million tonnes of waste, inspiring new business waste targets, which came into effect in January 2008,  and with higher targets proposed for 2009 and beyond.  Justin Olosunde, Business Development Manager at ReZolve commented:

“Over 80% of a product’s costs and environmental impact are set at the design stage so by thinking ‘cleaner’ from the outset these can be minimised.” 

Justin went on to say:

“Large companies such as Nike, Coca Cola and Electrolux have benefitted from using cleaner design principles for their products and packaging, now we want to make sure that Cornish businesses are benefitting too.”

 The event will incorporate practical workshops and discussion to help companies identify and implement cleaner design within the context of their own company.  The Clean Design event will be  held on October 29th from 9:30am until 3.15pm and is free to all Cornish businesses that manufacture or design products and/or packaging.  Lunch will be provided but booking is essential.
