About Starting Out
Starter Packs

Starting Out will provide starter packs that include items like cookers, sofas, beds, table & chairs, crockery & curtains. This pack will allow people to move into unfurnished properties and make the best start in their new home.
The Starter Packs will be managed by Cornwall’s three reuse centres who between them have over 34 years experience of providing affordable reused furniture:
People's Millions offers us a unique chance to access funding which will allow the reuse centres to provide:
• 150 starter packs
• benefitting 450 people
• diverting 26 tonnes of waste from landfill and
• saving 229 tonnes of CO2.
Volunteering and Training
The people receiving furniture starter packs will be encouraged to give back to the centres through participating in supported volunteering activity, making a significant contribution to increasing the reuse centre‘s capacity and maybe encouraging the beneficiaries to take part in accredited training aimed at getting them back in to work.

The volunteer opportunities the project will offer are invaluable as they help to build confidence, provide work experience and can be coupled with accredited training and employment support. We are able to help homeless people to get a real new start in life.
Volunteer placements available through the centres include: customer service, retail and sales, electrical repair, furniture repair, administration, marketing, warehousing and more.
RE:SOURCE alone has facilitated voluntary placements for 181 volunteers in 16 months, many of gone onto to gain full time employment, with 10 securing paid employment at the reuse centre.
