ReZolve Receives Double Whammy!
ReZolve has been awarded the Social Enterprise Mark, identifying them as a company trading solely for social and environmental purposes and proving that they have made the giant leap from grant dependency. This comes in the same week as a Business Link Carbon Footprint report declared ReZolve “well beyond carbon neutral”.
The Social Enterprise Mark identifies businesses which meet defined criteria for social enterprise, and enables consumers to recognise businesses that are trading to benefit people and planet.
It aims to raise awareness of what social enterprises do in order to get more people to buy from, engage with, start up and work for social enterprises.
Lucy Findley from the Social Enterprise Mark Company said:
“We are delighted to award the prestigious Social Enterprise Mark to ReZolve. Social enterprises come in all shapes and forms so it’s great to see a vital, not-for-profit company understanding the importance of being part of the wider social enterprise brand.”
Government data estimates that there are 62,000 social enterprises across the UK, contributing £24 billion to the economy and employing around 800,000 people. The Social Enterprise Coalition’s State of Social Enterprise Survey 2009 found that social enterprises are twice as confident of growth compared to typical small to medium enterprises (SMEs), with 48% of social enterprises saying they are positive about the future as opposed to just 24%of SMEs.
Jon Rolls, Chief Executive of ReZolve, said:
“We’re really proud to have been awarded the Social Enterprise Mark. ReZolve is totally committed to developing and supporting more sustainable business models and consequently helping local communities to thrive and prosper.
“This award comes at a great time for ReZolve, as we have also recently received extremely positive feedback from a Business Link Carbon Footprint Report. The report declared us ‘well beyond carbon neutral’ and shows that our baseline footprint is -306 tonnes for the 2009 period.”
The report demonstrated that the 1,516 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions averted during the period 2006-2009 may also wholly offset the personal footprint of most, if not all of ReZolve’s employees on an annual basis.
The two accolades sit very well with the ReZolve mission, which seeks to balance “environment, community and enterprise”, priorities which ReZolve address through the management of a number of different projects all with environmental and social aims. The projects include: RE:SOURCE the Bodmin based furniture reuse centre, Go Real - the national Real Nappy Information Service and training projects the Environmental Skills Network and ReZolve Skills.
Jon concluded:
“This is a great achievement for us and recognises the huge effort and commitment from all the staff and volunteers that work here. But it doesn’t stop here; we are now working on a 2020 Vision that will hopefully see ReZolve playing its part in a Carbon Neutral Cornwall. That will require a huge shift in attitudes and some real commitment on the ground to changing the way we do things.”
