RE:Source Donates Garden Furniture
RE:Source has donated two picnic benches made from recycled materials to the Lanhydrock Allotments and Community Garden Association.
The benches have been made by volunteers at ReSource and were handed over on 6th July at the allotments, the allotments are on the grounds of the National Trust close to the magnificent Lanhydrock House and Gardens.
Jon Rolls, Chief Executive of ReZolve, said:
“We’re really pleased to be able to support the Lanhydrock Community Garden Association, by donating the benches we hope we’ll be encouraging people to come and use their allotments, grow their own veg and hopefully become less reliant on the big supermarkets.”
“It’s important to remember that materials used to make these benches could have just ended up in landfill, we need to send out the message that this kind of waste can be avoided through innovative projects like ReSource.”
A Lanhydrock representative said:
“The new benches are fantastic, we’re really grateful that ReSource has chosen to donate them to us and knowing that some perfectly good furniture has been saved from going to landfill makes it even better.”
“They will definitely provide a boost for the community spirit by providing an area to relax and socialise after all the hard work of attending the allotments.”
The two volunteers responsible for building the furniture were Paul and Kevin who met years ago when they worked together making stained glass windows. They both live in the bodmin area.
Paul has been volunteering at ReSource for about 12 months, 4 months ago he bumped into Kevin and told him what he was doing and Kevin decided to volunteer.
It was Kevin’s idea to create the picnic table and bench, as he wanted to find a way to use the furniture that was beyond repair and transform it into something else.
The bench is actually made from an old bed and the picnic table is largely made from re used side boards. Kevin and Paul are both used to working with wood and have alot of experience in the area, the only new things they had to buy for the project were the nuts and bolts.
Kevin said: ‘ It’s nice to work on restoring the furniture but it’s really good to make something completely unique.’
The good thing is they have kept the jigs for the furniture and they will be able to make more if needed.
On working for ReSource Paul said: ‘There are lots of places we could go and do volunteer work, but we feel most useful working at Resource and we can pass on our skills and knowledge to other volunteers.’
‘The people at ReSource are flexible with the hours that I work, I don’t have to go in every day,I’m not tied down to anything and if I have a free day I’m always welcome to come in and help.’
‘I believe the furniture we built for the Lanhydrock allotments really exceeded their expectations.’
